MEET DR. EMMA KATE REIF
"We are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship, and we can be healed in relationship." ~ Harville Hendrix
Welcome! My name is Dr. Emma Kate Reif, and I’m a licensed psychologist and Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) located in Charlotte, NC. I've been in practice for almost 10 years, and specialize in working with adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and complex relationship dynamics.
I genuinely enjoy connect with people and hearing their stories. I’m also just like you, a human who is constantly learning and growing with the peaks and valleys of life!
Throughout my work, I’ve seen how many people aren’t struggling because something is “wrong” with them, but because of patterns that developed over time in response to their experiences. Many of my clients are high-functioning and capable, but internally they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward in certain areas of their lives.
My goal is to provide a grounded, thoughtful space where you can begin to better understand your patterns, process your experiences, and reconnect with yourself in a more steady and authentic way.
In my free time, I enjoy reading and deepening my understanding of the brain and neuroscience. I’m also drawn to intuitive work, and learning to trust my intuition has been an important part of my own journey in life. I am passionate about helping others search and connect with meaning in their lives, whatever that looks like!
MY APPROACH
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." ~ Carl Young
During therapy, I use an integrative, trauma-informed approach grounded in an attachment and developmental lens. This means we look at how your early experiences and relationships have shaped patterns in how you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others, helping you understand not just what you’re experiencing, but why.
A central part of our work involves slowing down so you can observe and understand your internal experiences, rather than immediately trying to change or avoid them. This creates space for insight, self-compassion, and more intentional responses over time.
Many of the concerns people bring to therapy are rooted in patterns that developed over time and operate across multiple layers, including thoughts, emotions, relationships, and the nervous system. An integrative approach allows us to work with these layers more effectively, rather than focusing on just one part of your experience.
I incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parts-based work, elements of Positive Psychology (e.g., compassion, mindfulness, and resilience), alongside other evidence-based approaches. Upon request, I also integrate aspects of spiritual psychology, including intuition and meaning-making, in a way that is grounded and aligned with your preferences and belief system.
We will work together to tailor therapy to your unique needs so that change feels meaningful, sustainable, and aligned with who you are.
